Want to try Scotland’s oldest and most traditional sport? Want to play a game requiring skill, speed and stamina?
Shinty is a fast, fluid and exciting sport, and after a couple of sessions beginners can pick up fitness and skills.
Glasgow University has played shinty for over 100 hundred years. We are the current champions of the Marine Harvest South Division 2, after an unbeaten league campaign. Our ladies team has won the Littlejohn Vase University Championships in 2003, whilst our men were beaten finalists.
League matches provide us with games against other universities as well as teams form all over the South of Scotland. Regular away trips are a great social as well as sporting event, and offer the chance to play a fun sport in beautiful surroundings on the West Coast.
Shinty is a sport for everyone. Our experienced coaches will teach the basic skills needed to master the game. All you have to bring is yourself, and you will be provided with sticks and balls. Males and females are warmly welcomed.
We have a great social side, both after matches and during the week. It is a great way to make new friends all over Scotland.
Give shinty a try - you won’t be disappointed!
